Working on the website, and wondering about Akismet

Christopher and I have been sick for just over a week, so I took the time to do some work on my site instead of sewing. I’ve made a lot of behind-the-scenes changes, and I’m now starting to add a few of the things I’ve been needing to add (the galleries will be a little while, still).

One thing I did add was Akismet (an anti-spam plug-in).  Unfortunately, I’m not actually seeing the spam it’s catching — for all I know, it could be marking real comments as spam.  It’s not putting it in a queue where I can go look, and correct any mistakes.

So if you reply here and notice it doesn’t post, use the link on the Contact Me page to let me know.  Please remember, if you have never replied here before, or use a different email address, comments are moderated the first time you reply.  After that, as long as you use the same information, you should be able to reply without going into the moderate queue.

About Cynthia Griffith

I have way too many interests and hobbies, and continually cycle through them -- paying attention to some, while others wait for when I can get around to them again. My main interests are sewing and costuming (I enjoy historical clothing, such as 18th and 19th century, as well as fantasy costumes like elves and hopefully someday even dwarves), as well as getting back to art by drawing fan art of Thorin Oakenshield and Company. My husband Christopher and I spend a lot of time together, enjoying the outdoors and shared hobbies such as juggling. This blog and website is my way to share what I'm up to with friends and family.

  1. Testing comments to see if things are working smoothly — I hope a few friends can help me out by trying to reply here as well (and let me know elsewhere they did in case Akismet hides it from me).

    Testing testing…

Sorry you guys have been under the weather. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

  3. Whew! Glad to see yours came through just fine, Amy! Thanks so much for testing 😀

The timing was just so weird with this thing… right about the time I activated the plugin, some of the usual folks slowed down on replies, and then I worried new folks were immediately getting removed. I’ve heard the program can be very aggressive and is known to remove legitimate replies and put them where you can’t get to them (so I wouldn’t even know). So when I saw these numbers building up (about as many as I’d get reply-wise when I post), and no way for me to see if it was catching the right stuff or not, I got nervous! Heheh.

We’re feeling a bit better, thanks! Just trying to get back to work outs and back on a regular schedule. I haven’t sewed at all but it gave me time to mess with the website/blog 😀

    Best wishes!

Well, let’s see if this gets through. I’m glad you’re feeling better and also glad you were able to take the time to do some stuff on the website. Love the picture 🙂

  5. Mary: Thanks so much for replying!

So it seems as if it’s working well enough, although I haven’t been able to get anyone I know who hasn’t replied yet to give it a try. I’m going to just assume it’s running properly until someone emails me to let me know. 🙂

Definitely feeling better (although the allergies can go away any time now!).

Regarding the picture, thanks! It’s from a website called MorgueFile. One of the other things I’d been looking into is deciding what to use for images on blog entries when I don’t have my own. I was trying another plugin and decided to just keep doing what I have been doing (except I went through and watermarked the photos we took).
