Some photos

I’ve been busy sewing again, trying to catch up on other projects for events coming up.

This morning, I decided to take a break and go for a little walk. I took our new camera with me (a Nikon Coolpix P7100). I thought you’d like to see some of my photos!

First, I love birds, and mockingbirds are my favorite. I barely went very far before I saw this pair:

And how about this adorable fluff-ball of cuteness? “I’m hungry!”

Obviously I love taking photos of mockingbirds, and they’re a little braver with letting me get close enough to take their photograph. This one happened to slip on the lamp post, and flapped its wings just as I took the photo. What luck!

I also saw a lot of flowers and butterflies:

Here’s one from last weekend when I was visiting my mother-in-law and her brother. I think this is a young robin (not totally sure, because it just had a bath). It was perched about 12 feet from me, but I had to take the photograph through glass so the birds would visit the yard.

And finally, here is the first photograph I ever took on our new camera. Such pretty colors!

Thanks for looking, and if you’d like to see more, I have them at my Flickr account.

About Cynthia Griffith

I have way too many interests and hobbies, and continually cycle through them -- paying attention to some, while others wait for when I can get around to them again. My main interests are sewing and costuming (I enjoy historical clothing, such as 18th and 19th century, as well as fantasy costumes like elves and hopefully someday even dwarves), as well as getting back to art by drawing fan art of Thorin Oakenshield and Company. My husband Christopher and I spend a lot of time together, enjoying the outdoors and shared hobbies such as juggling. This blog and website is my way to share what I'm up to with friends and family.

  1. I loooooooooove the camera, and I gotta admit: it’s very cool knowing you were out taking photos and wondering what you’d bring back! Much like I love seeing the progress of sewing, art, and other things you do and have done, today’s photos had that anticipation — I couldn’t wait to see what photos you got!

I love the butterfly photo on the Flickr account (the one of the butterfly on your leg). All very cool photos!

  2. LOVE THEM!!!!! You did great! I like the way nikon designed the look of that cool pix too…it looks so vintage <3

  3. @Christopher: Yeah, I wish I’d done a little more of a refresher on cameras. It’s been so long since I’ve used our old manual cameras (and I’ve rarely used my medium format since it has a bit of a winding issue and some leaks). I’m going to try to refresh my memory, not to mention get used to the camera and keep taking photos. I’m sure I’ll practice on my feathered friends, butterflies, and flowers more. Oh no… I would hate that! 😉

@Kaycee: Thanks! It’s a great little camera for a point-and-shoot (okay, I say that, but it was a decent investment for a point-and-shoot heheh). We have a lot of old film cameras, but rarely use them. It’s nice to have something SO easy to get memories and put them online. I’m having a blast with it!

What great pictures! Must have been a very satisfying walk for you. I really enjoyed them. Thanks.

  5. @Mary: Thanks! It was fun — very nice to get out and take photos for a change of pace. Btw, we went back out last night and I got some more. I just posted another entry with links, a few photos, and a video.
