Making Some Cuts

No, I don’t mean cutting fabric. I’m making some cuts to my To Do List and other areas of my life.

Even though the year is only halfway through, I’ve been pretty active with events and sewing. I haven’t updated about all of my projects (some still need finishes or just photos so I can update), but I’ve been busier than ever. It has been fun.

Unfortunately, other areas of my life have been neglected, and my husband being involved in my hobby with me has kept him from a lot of his goals. June is a very busy month for us on so many levels, and it finally hit both of us all at once. The stress, that is. And the realization that we need to step back a little.

I’m still going to continue sewing, but I’m going to take my time and enjoy the process. Even getting back to embroidery projects that have been gathering dust. I’m still going to attend some costuming events here and there, but I will have to skip many of them.

One of the biggest things that has been put off is our health. We’ve always been very healthy and active, and we’ve missed it. Above all else, our physical and mental health should be the most important part of our lives, because without it we can’t enjoy everything else.

I don’t have any regrets though, it’s been an interesting challenge to see what I could do when I pushed myself. Like I said, I’ve had a lot of fun and realized even mistakes can work out. And it’s been great being able to mark off costumes I wanted to make a lot sooner than I’d planned.

About Cynthia Griffith

I have way too many interests and hobbies, and continually cycle through them -- paying attention to some, while others wait for when I can get around to them again. My main interests are sewing and costuming (I enjoy historical clothing, such as 18th and 19th century, as well as fantasy costumes like elves and hopefully someday even dwarves), as well as getting back to art by drawing fan art of Thorin Oakenshield and Company. My husband Christopher and I spend a lot of time together, enjoying the outdoors and shared hobbies such as juggling. This blog and website is my way to share what I'm up to with friends and family.

  2. Mary: We’re fine, thanks πŸ™‚ I’ve sent you an email and we’ll talk later when we see you!

  3. Beth says:

Good for you! I’m doing the same thing right now too – I did several big projects at the beginning of the year, and now I’m forcing myself to not start a new project until some house projects are done, and I’m spending more time on my other hobbies. It’s good that we have so many things to enjoy in life, and we need to make sure we enjoy them without pressure!

  4. Exactly, Beth — I’m looking forward to slowing things down soon and getting to many things we’ve both been putting off or missing out on!

Thank you so much for reading and for your reply πŸ™‚ Best wishes!
