Elven Costume at the Picnic with the Pixies Event

I finally had the chance to wear my new costume at an event. It wasn’t raining, in fact the sun was shining bright, but boy was it windy! As you can see, this isn’t exactly the best costume to wear on windy days — but it was worth it!

We had a blast at this event and it was fun to see what everyone made and wore. Christopher took photos for us, as usual, but we didn’t get as many as we probably should have, and Christopher is still a little shy about taking lots of photos of everyone. It can be hard to think of everything when you’re busy chatting and having fun! We almost forgot to take a group shot, in fact!

I also had the chance to finally finish putting makeup on the elf ear tips, as well as putting them on “for real.” I was very nervous I’d have trouble since I have so much hair and a lot of it tries to get in the way right where you’re gluing part of the ear down. I thought I would need Christopher’s help, but I managed to do it on my own thankfully. I was pleased they stayed on (in fact, I left them on for several hours after we got home so I could test how well and long they held up).

This was a fun costume, and I have to admit I wouldn’t mind having a few elven costumes of varying types. This one might be a little too annoying to wear at some events. I also updated the costume page with a few more photos, and some showing the better-blended ear tips a little more.

About Cynthia Griffith

I have way too many interests and hobbies, and continually cycle through them -- paying attention to some, while others wait for when I can get around to them again. My main interests are sewing and costuming (I enjoy historical clothing, such as 18th and 19th century, as well as fantasy costumes like elves and hopefully someday even dwarves), as well as getting back to art by drawing fan art of Thorin Oakenshield and Company. My husband Christopher and I spend a lot of time together, enjoying the outdoors and shared hobbies such as juggling. This blog and website is my way to share what I'm up to with friends and family.

  1. I’m so glad the weather turned out nice. I was so worried about the wind, but your hair didn’t get too bad since we were tending to it. In fact, the breeze really added to some of the photos! It was a great day 🙂

  2. Yeah, definitely not something I would do very often! I’ll have to come up with a few variants to go with other outfits. I’m still not sure I would copy any screen-accurate costumes, but maybe I’ll start getting a little more inspired by them. Not that I intend to have a wardrobe full of them!

I’m just sad your costume wasn’t ready yet. I hope it doesn’t take us too terribly long to make your Thorin costume, and maybe the Pixie Picnic will be a yearly thing so you can wear it there! That would be fun. 🙂
