Focusing on Art

Some of the supplies I use when I draw in pencil or inks. See the link listed below to see some more items.

For whatever reason, I seem to be going through a really bad funk. No worries though — I’ll be okay.

Unfortunately, it makes it difficult for me to focus on things. So… I have been making very little to no progress on sewing — even when it seemed like nothing was really going wrong with it! I’ve decided to just relax and not push myself with that hobby (I would hate to end up not enjoying it), and work on it here and there when I’m not putting so much pressure on myself.

I refuse to ignore all hobbies, however, and since art isn’t as stressful and is very budget-friendly… drawing it is!

I’m currently working on another inked dwarf drawing, and decided to start taking some notes and photos during the process. I’ve had a lot of folks ask me what I use, and how I do things. I’m trying to break things up into smaller categories to organize it a bit better (that, and I babble way too much).

I’m posting them on my Facebook page, and the first one is up already. I started with the supplies I use for pencil and ink drawings, so focusing on my black and white art. You can see the note here. When I get back to coloring drawings, I’ll do another note on those supplies.

When I finish the latest drawing, I’ll post a note showing the progress of how I did it.

And thanks for your patience. I know I have a lot of costumers following me, and no… I’m not quitting forever. I guess we all find ourselves in this place eventually for various reasons, and I’m sure I’ll get back to it again soon. 🙂 I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone else is making though — I may not always reply, but it’s always wonderful seeing such creative and beautiful garments being made. Enjoy!

About Cynthia Griffith

I have way too many interests and hobbies, and continually cycle through them -- paying attention to some, while others wait for when I can get around to them again. My main interests are sewing and costuming (I enjoy historical clothing, such as 18th and 19th century, as well as fantasy costumes like elves and hopefully someday even dwarves), as well as getting back to art by drawing fan art of Thorin Oakenshield and Company. My husband Christopher and I spend a lot of time together, enjoying the outdoors and shared hobbies such as juggling. This blog and website is my way to share what I'm up to with friends and family.

  1. Well, you know I’m loving seeing art again 🙂 I’m glad you’re back to doing your thing…and more than picking up where you left off!

Sounds like a good rest and relax is just what you need, and whatever that leads to, be it dreaming or drawing or taking fabric in your hand, it’s good to just let it happen.

    Many wishes for growing peace,

    Natalie

  3. Thanks, Christopher. I do hope to get back to sewing soon… but not while I’m in an easily agitated mood and having trouble focusing. Bad enough with hobbies that require less, if you know what I mean. But I’m happy you are still enjoying the art — as you know, I do a lot of it for you since I know you love dwarves so much. 🙂

Thank you, Natalie! While I understand those who thrive on pushing themselves to just do it, sometimes it isn’t the best option and only causes more trouble. Hopefully I’ll come out of this more inspired than ever, ready to tackle lots of hobbies (then again, maybe that’s my problem…. too many ideas all scrambling to get out at once, with only two hands…. ha! 😉 ). Best Wishes!
