Finished First Drawing of 2015

Unfortunately, this was started in 2014. Well, better late than never. πŸ˜‰

View finished drawing here.

From the deviantART page:

I started this in August 2014 and let it sit for way too long. Way too many distractions, occasional confidence blahs, and plenty of “not sure if I like this anymore” moments.Β  I thought I’d lost too much from the original sketch:

Finally, January 2015 (*facepalm and blushes*) I decided enough. Power through and just finish it.

I also received Deathless the sword for Christmas, and I really wish I’d had it handy when I was working on this. I was squinting at way too many small photo ref’s for the costume and sword. ;)

Drawn on 11×14 Bristol using Black Magic ink (and washes), a little black pencil for texture, and Dr. PH Martin’s Bombay White ink for a couple little shiny spots on the mithril. Brushes used are Winsor & Newton series 7 sable (sizes #2 mostly, with some #3 and maybe a little #1).

So hopefully I can get it in the frame and hung up, and get back to more art. I can’t believe how long that took me. Bad Cynthia, bad! But sometimes other things scream a little louder for attention, or one just doesn’t feel up to finishing things (hmmm… I have a few too many of those sorts of projects).

About Cynthia Griffith

I have way too many interests and hobbies, and continually cycle through them -- paying attention to some, while others wait for when I can get around to them again. My main interests are sewing and costuming (I enjoy historical clothing, such as 18th and 19th century, as well as fantasy costumes like elves and hopefully someday even dwarves), as well as getting back to art by drawing fan art of Thorin Oakenshield and Company. My husband Christopher and I spend a lot of time together, enjoying the outdoors and shared hobbies such as juggling. This blog and website is my way to share what I'm up to with friends and family.
